Project Manager for Sustainable Community Development

The Unit for Projects, Development, and Analysis is located at the municipal executive office with a strategic responsibility to drive and coordinate cross-municipal development work related to sustainable development and Agenda 2030, quality work, and the activities of the municipal executive board.

The unit is to provide support and expertise to politics and management based on the unit's various areas of responsibility and to monitor and contribute to the organization's overall direction and choices in the long-term development of Nyköping Municipality. The unit's role and interface in the municipal organization vary and are largely governed by the nature, purpose, and target group of the given assignments.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The assignment of the position is to participate in driving and developing the municipality's strategic work to address challenges related to sustainable community development. You will be responsible for your own subject areas primarily within the environmental and climate sectors but are expected to lead or participate in other coordination and operational development assignments based on the organization's needs.

The position includes independently proposing, initiating, and coordinating development work based on political and operational needs. As a strategist, you work broadly with operational development and change management, which also includes responsibility for and development of processes, methods, and working practices both independently and in collaboration with others.

The work is performed based on both short-term and long-term political and operational goals and assignments. Work methods and solutions are not always given or predefined and often require innovative thinking. The work consists of varied tasks that are investigative and preparatory in nature, often with significant elements of analysis and method development related to cross-municipal development work.

Examples of tasks performed as a strategist include initiating, participating in, and coordinating cross-functional development work and collaboration. Mapping, investigating, preparing, developing, and following up on cross-municipal goals, assignments, processes, methods, and working practices. Working on behalf of politics and management with operational planning and follow-up within given areas of responsibility.

You will provide political support in the subject areas you are responsible for, advising political and management leadership and being responsible for producing decision-making materials and conducting investigations as assigned. The position also involves supporting the management of the service organization by assisting in the implementation of political decisions and directives. You will also be responsible for monitoring the external environment and keeping track of external funding opportunities within your areas of responsibility.

Another part of the job is to support the operations by coordinating cross-municipal activities; being responsible for and monitoring networks with internal and external actors; conducting information and knowledge-enhancing activities, and supporting the operations based on their needs. To achieve political goals for sustainable community development, active dialogue and collaboration with politics, the municipality's operations, and external actors are of great importance.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone with:

• A university degree in social sciences, environmental science, sustainability, or equivalent education that we consider relevant for the position
• Experience working strategically with operational development and/or change management, preferably with experience in sustainable development
• Experience collaborating in, leading, and coordinating assignments
• Understanding of working in a politically governed organization, preferably with experience in municipal or state administration
• Very good ability to express yourself well in Swedish, both orally and in writing

As a person, you are confident and stable in your professional role and have an easy time building trusting relationships with others. You are a generalist rather than a specialist and have a good strategic ability to drive development issues within your areas of responsibility in the long term. You are curious, attentive, and have a realistic and analytical approach. We also see that you are structured and can plan and drive your work independently based on given goals. You have a strong personal drive and are used to collaborating on issues related to your areas of responsibility. It is natural for you to stay updated on the latest developments in your profession, and you likely have a strong interest in political and societal issues, strategic development issues within public operations, and sustainable development. You are solution-oriented and unafraid to propose, plan, and drive development or change work. You are ready to take on various types of assignments based on the organization's needs and thrive with variation, change, and development.
